Free tool · OFW padala

Which padala gives home more pesos?

A low fee can hide a poor rate. Type what each remittance option offers you and see what your family receives and what you really pay, side by side.

How it works

The rate you really get.

The worked example

Sending SAR 1,500. Option A gives ₱15.50 per riyal with a SAR 15 fee; Option B gives ₱15.20 with no fee.

  • A: they receive (1,500 × 15.50)₱23,250
  • A: you pay (1,500 + 15)SAR 1,515
  • A: pesos per riyal you pay₱15.35
  • B: they receive (1,500 × 15.20)₱22,800
  • The “free” one gives₱450 less

Three habits that add up

  • Compare the rate, not just the fee. A few centavos per unit beats a small fee on most amounts.
  • Send less often, a little more each time. A flat fee costs less per peso on a bigger padala.
  • Check the BSP reference rate to know a fair rate when you see one. Providers set their own, usually a little lower.

Questions

Before you send.

What does “₱ per unit paid” mean?

The pesos your family receives divided by everything you pay, fee included. It’s the one number that lets you compare a no-fee option with a better-rate one fairly.

Where do I find the rates?

In each provider’s app or counter on the day you send; they change daily. The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas publishes a daily reference rate, a useful yardstick, but providers set their own rates.

The fee is taken from the amount, not added. Does this still work?

Yes: type the amount that will be converted, and the fee as 0, then compare what they receive. Or type the full amount and the fee, and read the “per unit paid” figure.

Is it better to send once a month or twice?

With a flat fee, once a month costs less in fees. Twice a month can still be right when home needs the money on the 15th: plan it, and count both fees.

Does this page send money?

No. It only compares the numbers you type. Use the remittance service you trust, then log it.
